Faendilyn Bluebrook

Personal life

Personality

This one hears the whispers of court—scheming and revelry behind closed doors... Your spirit bespeaks elegance, walker—pillow-soft and dagger-sharp. This one sees... yes, it is the Lady. Her gifts are sweet indeed for those deserving. Patience, caution, foresight. Seek the highest path to earn her protection.

— Baandari fortune for those under the Lady

Faendilyn is a naturally jovial and curious woman, always ready to jump at the first chance of adventure. She has always enjoyed exploring the world around her and uses much of her newfound time as a vampire to acquire new knowledge and discover lost mysteries. However, this curiosity isn't always tempered, and she often finds herself in dangerous situations.

Spirituality

Any Wood Elf that violated the Green Pact, either by shifting or by damaging the Green, would be condemned to return to the formlessness of the Ooze. Their names would be scrubbed from the story Y'ffre is telling and replaced with silence... No one has ever seen the Ooze, or heard the souls trapped in it, or met the one who can relieve the condemned of their punishment. But if you ask a Wood Elf if he thinks the Ooze is "just a tale," he will invariably reply, "There is no such thing as 'just a tale.'"

The Ooze: A Fable

Faendilyn is a strict Green Pact Bosmer and worshipper of Y'ffre. Even as a vampire, she adheres to it's tenants and in many ways remains a traditionalist.

Motivations

Free Pursuit of Knowledge

A driving force behind many of Faendilyn's actions is the open pursuit of knowledge. After being raised in a conservative religious environment with limited academic resources, she doesn't waste any opportunity afforded to her to learn new things. She is known among friends and peers alike as being open-minded and liberal to the exploration of taboo magics.

Career

Anthropology

Faendilyn's lifelong interest in forbidden and obscure magics led her to a brilliant academic career studying lost and largely misunderstood cultures. Her connection to her native Valenwood and its ancient inhabitants first sparked an interest in the Ayleids. (Continue on with Dwemer, Kothringi, etc.)

Scribing

"What lies always ahead of you though you will never see it? What is always coming but never arrives? Existence itself is a mystery, an unmapped territory spread out before you. Will you take a vow to explore it?"

Ulfsid the Evergreen
during the quest "The Wing of the Crow"

Authorship

Faendilyn Bluebrook is also the author of several texts of both a historical and magical nature. They include:
  • Shadows of Aetherius: Understanding Magical Practices Throughout Tamriel
  • Unlocking Sorcery: An Apprentice’s Companion
  • Field Observations on the Power of Skyshards
  • Guardians of Nature: The Cultural Heart of the Skaal
  • Embracing Elemental Forces: A Guide to Conjuration

History

Early childhood

But the written record is not, after all, the best way to research Oblivion and the Daedra who inhabit it. Those who "trafficke with daimons" seldom wish it to be a matter of public account. Nevertheless, scattered throughout the literature of the First Era are diaries, journals, notices for witch burnings, and guides for Daedra-slayers... It has always been my philosophy that we need only fear that which we do not understand—and with that thought in mind, I ever pursue my objective.

On Oblivion

Faendilyn was born in the shadow of the Blacksap Rebellion to two wealthy parents. Her father, a distant cousin of King Camoran Aeradan, did not support the intervention of the Aldmeri Dominion and as such fell out of favor with the nobility. Her mother was a moderately successful inn owner and her father became an animal tamer. Both were staunch Green Pact adherents and raised their children to believe the same.

When Faendilyn was a child, her father was suffered a fatal attack from one of the guar he was training. She witnessed this accident, along with her older brother, and it had a great impact on her life. Not only did she have to grapple with the trauma of witnessing her father's death, but the circumstances surrounding his death caused her mother to bitterly resent the encroachment of outside cultural influences. This further limited her knowledge of the outside world and only heightened her curiousity.

Leaving Cormount

Faendilyn had been practicing conjuration magic for years in secret.
