Lucian Lovenus

She felt for the first time in a long time she was well and truly alone. But was she not lonely, mind you, as she found herself quite pleasant company. Her Mistress always said there was no such thing as solitude inside an intelligent mind. But that was precisely the point. Her own voice was the only one she had heard for–- well, it was hard to say, really. There was no turning of the moons underground. Until the snow cleared, she would live as the nobles who built them did: easily, off the backs of others. And with half a dozen bandits lying dead at her feet, it wasn't likely she would go hungry.

Personal life

Personality

This one sees... strength. Yes. The clenched fist and walls of stone. This one sees claw marks upon cold, wet stone. Smells moss and memory. It is the Tower that guides you. Like a fortress, you may weather fire and claw. But do not rely on strength alone. The strongest wall is the one that is hidden.

— Baandari fortune for those born under the Tower

Lucian is a fiercely loyal friend, client, and patron. There is little that cannot be forgiven (or granted) once his trust is gained. He is selfless with his companions and thoughtful to those he cares about. He is also naturally curious about matters both magical and metaphysical. When faced with a question, he searches relentlessly until the answer is found. He enjoys games of all types, although he does not have a competitive nature.

Despite his loyalty, Lucian is slow to trust others. He is difficult to get to know and often answers even harmless questions with lies. For those who he does not hold in high regard, he is cold, disinterested, and often manipulative. He also tends to be both childish and short-sighted.

Spirituality

Despite his traditional Imperial childhood, Lucian feels no connection with any of the Divines. During his time in Morrowind, he grew to believe that the Divines were lesser than the Daedra: not only as false gods but as an illusion. As an extension of his duties as the Listener, he shows frequent dedication to Sithis. His understanding of Sithis as "The Void" has helped him to further explore alteration magic and the mysteries of Aetherius. This is also expressed in his fealty to the Night Mother and her commandments.

Motivations

Devotion to the Night Mother

Lucian's primary expression of his Sithis devotion is through his devotion to the Night Mother. As the Listener, he is a strict adherent to traditional rules and has little patience for those who seek change. He feels a unique sense of loyalty to the Night Mother as he credits her with saving him from the riots of Bravil.

Interests

Ayleid History

Lucian has always shown an interest in Ayleid history and culture. Some of his earliest memories involve with father regaling tales of the Wild Elves who he claimed still made their home in the unclaimed forests of Cyrodiil. Although he no longer believes his father's stories, he is not convinced that the Ayleids have been completely eradicated. It was also his interest in the Ayelids that sparked his fascination with alteration magic. His foremost technological interest is that of meteoric iron. As a student of alteration, he hopes to one day develop a shield spell that can mimic the same qualities of this mysterious substance.

Fears and Phobias

Drowning

As a small child, Lucian enjoyed fishing with his grandmother and diving for oysters with his father. One day, however, a young Lucian found a body alongside the riverbank. It turned out to be a friend of his father's. This discovery led to an immediate, overwhelming fear of drowning. His father taught the young boy a waterbreathing spell and promised that as long as he believed he could do it, he could never suffer the same fate.

Mage Fire

After the events of Death Incarnate, Lucian develops a fear of mage fire. Previously a fledgling fire mage, the only destruction spells he is comfortable using are runes.
